S’more Cupcake Taste Test

Summer is over but the crisp and chilly air is making me crave s’mores.  I thought why not amp it up and go for a S’more cupcake.  It is one of my favorite cupcakes because the topping is always light and fluffy compared to the dense butter cream frosting of other flavors that sometimes overpowers the cupcake.  I also love the graham cracker surprise at the bottom.

Not too long ago I got a ginormous S’more cupcake from Cako bakery in San Francisco’s Union Square.  I decided to try two other versions in the city from Kara’s Cupcakes and Miette.

I love Kara’s new individual cupcake boxes.  The liner at the bottom keeps the cupcake from shifting.  Someone should create a reusable version.

Kara’s S’more cupcake has a nicely toasted top with a signature sugared decoration.

Breaking into the toasted meringue topping

The graham cracker crust is perfect and remains in tact.  Love that.  It’s so disappointing when you get a cupcake the graham crumbles at the bottom.  The chocolate cake is moist and tender.  Meringue topping is a nice and light.

Cako bakery’s cupcake has the same three components but the graham cracker crust fell apart.  Perhaps if I got the regular size instead of jumbo, it may be more in tact.

Miette’s adorable pink packaging

Miette’s S’more cupcake has a marshmallow topping with a red button candy decoration.

Marshmallow frosting is my favorite so Miette definitely has the edge for that.  The chocolate cake is excellent as well.  Just as moist and tender as Kara’s.  Sadly though, there is no graham cracker bottom.

So it looks like my search continues for the perfect S’more cupcake with graham cracker bottom and marshmallow topping.
