Favorite Kitchen Shops in NYC

Whenever I travel I like to seek out local kitchen shops, antique shops and flea markets. Of course I always assume there will be a spot somewhere in the kitchen that will fit a tiny (wasn’t really that small) ceramic, dip-dyed pot made in India to keep…um salt? Why not. I can’t help it. I love kitchen things. Here are some of my favorite spots in New York City.

Whisk

I am in love with this shop near the Flatiron Building/Madison Square Park. So in love that I declared I’d live in the back room that’s dedicated to baking. Upon walking into the shop, this teal-colored nook against exposed brick caught my eye. All the white ceramics pop against the lovely blue. I’d say Whisk’s kitchen assortment is somewhere between Williams-Sonoma and Sur la Table. They have the core items and additional accessories, but not quite as extensive as in Sur la Table.

Movie Cakes: Because I Said So

Now that I’ve covered the kitchens, I can’t leave out the cakes in the movie.Ā  All the cakes were done by Los Angeles cake creators, Joanie & Leigh, otherwise known as the Cake Divas.Ā  I remember first seeing them as contestants on an old episode of Food Network Challenge.

Dream Movie Kitchens: Itā€™s Complicated

After ogling at the colorful and quirky kitchens from Because I Said So, IĀ knew I had toĀ postĀ Meryl Streep’s character’s kitchen from It’s Complicated.Ā  If I had to pick a dream kitchen this would be it.Ā  Of course I say that until Nancy Meyer comes out with another romantic comedy with an amazing design I’m sure I’ll want.

Meryl Streep in the dining room with a view of the gorgeous kitchen.Ā  I like how it is open so there is continuity from one room to the next.Ā  The oval arch is a nice architectural feature.
