I used to think where I stayed on vacation didn’

I used to think where I stayed on vacation didn’t matter because I’d spend all my time out and about, checking things off my detailed excel spreadsheet, but now I’ve come to appreciate having a nice hotel to return to.

Being in the hotel gives me a chance to pause and take in my surroundings, so my vacation doesn’t feel like a complete blur. It helps me have a balance between relaxing and running around. Anyone else do this, too?

Also, me googling “how much bath salts for a bath” 😛 because I had no clue.

Iconic San Francisco dessert: Blum’s Coffee Crunch Cake. 🍰 Fluffy sponge with coffee-flavored whipped cream and airy, crunchy honeycomb candy pieces.

Had a baking day with my pastry school friend @alisonheafey and decided to make something from class. Swipe 👉🏻 for the one from school in 2012. Not sure why I didn’t cover the cake fully with honeycomb. Tastes much better with more of it. They’re fried and glazed to order. The shapes remind me of the homemade touch and care into making sure what you’re eating is fresh and warm. So, here’s to wibbly, wobbly donuts. 🫶 Continue to be imperfectly perfect.

You can find me wherever the butter is. 🧈🧈 The restaurant goes through approx. two mottes de beurre Bordier (mounds of butter) each day. It’s “self-service” along with the jar of cornichons. Tempting to fill up on these snacks, but there is an entire menu of bites to choose from, printed on placards with photos, hanging from the ceiling.

My favorite moment was when all the locals started boisterously singing along to a French tune playing in the background. Such a fun vibe at this standing tapas and wine bar in Saint Germain.

No one does a bakery window like Ottolenghi. It’s the most happy sight upon walking into the shop. My go-to is the financier, which may not be the most flashy pastry but it’s tender and the perfect little snack.

Don’t need an occasion to have cake. 🍰 Critique on the 6” mango yuzu chantilly. This particular Whole Foods was generous with the filling. I would like a greater amount of cake, which seems to be more balanced in the larger 8” size that I’ve tried before. Also, the little mango coulis dots on top are yummy. I want more of that, maybe swirled with the yuzu filling. But otherwise, solid bake.
