Summer at Bouchon Bakery, Napa

Beautiful sunny day in late July, perfect for a foodie trip to Napa and as per tradition, the first stop was Bouchon Bakery.  I made my way over to the 10-person deep line and inhaled the aroma of fresh bread coming from the window.  It was worth the wait.

Inside the bustling shop

The dessert counter

The back wall is lined with fresh breads. I love the pain d’epi wreaths hanging in the nook.

Only at Bouchon… fois gras dog treats. Fortunately my dog’s palette is preferable to Costco Kirkland dog food. So moving on to the human treats.

Took the treats outside where there are wooden tables and chairs between Bouchon Bakery the restaurant. This blueberry and lemon tart is perfect for the summer season.

The shortbread crust, delicate and sweet, was the vessel for the lemon pastry cream and pile of fresh blueberries. Three candied lemon peels served as garnish.  It was fantastic and devoured in minutes.

For the second dessert, we selected the classic chocolate ganache tart.  It was eaten too quickly for me to get a shot of the middle.  Between the chocolate shortbread crust and ganache was a layer of caramel.

I was overly excited about the options in the bakery so the next two became breakfast the day after.

The pretzel croissant is a take on the version at City Bakery in NYC. City’s has just enough salt to remind you of a pretzel without being overpowering. Unfortunately this was so salty I couldn’t even finish it.

Looks like caviar but…

it’s a donut! It’s made using a brioche dough so its dense and rich. The chocolate spheres on top are crispy chocolatey bites.

The inside was a pleasant surprise of chocolate cream.
This donut probably didn’t need three images to explain but it was just that good.
