“I’ve been on National TV and you get used to the cameras but this is overwhelming.” Yigit exclaims as over a hundred fans look on while the talented Top Chef: Just Desserts winner demos healthy holiday treats at Macy’s Union Square this past Saturday.
As one of the many attendees I have to say, Yigit was engaging and personable. While demoing he chatted with us, entertaining both the pastry nerds (yes I took notes) and the Top Chef fans that want scoop (still in touch with Team Diva). Probably the greatest news is that there will be a pastry shop in the future and potentially in the style of Parisian tea salon and bakery, Ladurée. I wanted to squeal with glee. I cannot wait to see it come to fruition. Judging from his Top Chef creations, he is definitely going to bring some excitement and newness to pastry in San Francisco.
For the demo he made a Meyer lemon coffee cake with citrus marmalade and garnished with creme fraiche. Thank you Yigit for plating all hundred samples! The cake was buttery and had the perfect pound cake texture. I loved the marmalade warm. It was dessert à la mode.
Unfortunately the demo did have to end, but on a good note as he stuck around to take pictures and sign autographs. I’ll leave with some fun tidbits!

Favorite Dessert to make… anything classic and traditional and make it modern. His example was pavlova with rose cream and rose petals. Mmm.
